The Everest grape is a cold-hardy, self-pollinating, seedless grape variety (Vitis labrusca 'Everest') known for its large, blue-black berries that are twice the size of a standard 'Concord' grape while offering a similar flavor.

Key Characteristics

  • Flavor and Use: It has a juicy, distinctly flavorful taste similar to the traditional 'Concord' grape. Unlike the 'Concord', which is often used for jams and juice, the 'Everest' was bred to be an excellent table grape for fresh eating. Some sources also suggest it can be used for winemaking.

  • Fruit Size and Appearance: The grape produces large clusters of big, round, blue-black (purple) berries, which are seedless and have a thin, crisp skin.

  • Vigor and Yield: 'Everest' vines are large and productive, capable of producing up to 33 pounds of fruit per vine at maturity.

  • Hardiness and Disease Resistance: It is a very cold-hardy variety, thriving in USDA zones 5-10, and can withstand cold New York winter temperatures (down to -10 to -15°F). It exhibits moderate resistance to downy and powdery mildew
