Very alike, and almost indistinguishable, from Negronne, also known as Violette de Bordeaux, yet favored by some who say it is even more delicious than the renowned fig from Bordeaux.
Fruit Characteristics
Appearance: The fruit features jet-black or deep purple skin with a rich, dark red strawberry-colored flesh.
Flavor Profile: It is described as having a sweet and tangy berry-like flavor with a jammy, "Bordeaux berry" consistency.
Size: It typically produces small-to-medium-sized fruits that are often prized for their concentrated sweetness.
Growth & Cultivation
Tree Habits: The tree is a vigorous grower but maintains a naturally compact, bushy habit, reaching 8–15 feet in height. This makes it an excellent candidate for container growing or small gardens.
Fruiting: It is self-fruitful (does not require pollination) and is precocious, often bearing fruit within its first or second year. It typically produces a main crop in late summer/autumn and can sometimes produce an early "breba" crop.
Climate & Hardiness: Vista is hardy to roughly 0° to 5° F (USDA zones 7–10), though some growers note it may be slightly less cold-hardy than other VdB strains when grown in-ground in colder climates.
