This dwarf fig is a great hardy variety and suitable for container gardening. It is characterized by its compact growth and produces a generous yield of medium-sized brebas each season. Typically, this plant reaches about 6 feet in height and width, although it can be smaller with some pruning. Keep in mind that figs will develop on the previous year’s growth, so it’s important to consider this when pruning in the fall. This variety can yield two crops annually, one in late July and another in late September. Figs tend to flourish more and produce better yields when exposed to full sunlight; however, the Little Ruby can also thrive in partial shade, albeit with a reduced crop. The brebas of this fig are a red-brown hue with a ‘ruby’ center, delivering a delightful flavor whether enjoyed fresh or dried.
