A delicious and cold hardy Adriatic type fig with green skin and vibrant strawberry flesh, Battaglia Green was rediscovered in Virginia and has since been shared widely.

Fruit Characteristics

  • Appearance: Features bright green skin that remains vibrant even when fully ripe. The interior pulp is a striking strawberry-red or intense raspberry color.

  • Flavor Profile: Noted for an intense strawberry jam flavor with hints of raspberry and concord grape. It is often described as "sweet and jammy".

  • Size: Medium-to-large figs, typically larger than similar varieties like Strawberry Verte.

Tree & Growth Traits

  • Hardiness: Highly cold-tolerant, surviving temperatures between 0°F and 5°F (USDA Zones 7–10).

  • Productivity: Known for being a heavy producer, often yielding a fig at nearly every node. It produces both a breba (early) and a main crop.

  • Vigor: The tree is vigorous with large leaves and is considered easy to root from cuttings.

  • Ripening: The main crop typically ripens from late August through November.

Comparison to Other Varieties

Battaglia Green is frequently compared to other Adriatic types such as Strawberry Verte, Green Ischia, and Adriatic JH. It is generally considered superior due to its larger fruit size and earlier ripening period.
