Rovada is a widely grown red currant variety known for its exceptionally long fruit clusters, large berries, and outstanding productivity. Originally developed in the Netherlands, it has become one of the most popular late-season red currants for both home gardeners and commercial growers.

The bright red berries are large, glossy, and borne on long, pendulous clusters that can reach 6–8 inches in length. The fruit has a classic red currant flavor, tart with a touch of sweetness, making it ideal for fresh eating, juices, jams, jellies, and baking.

Rovada is a late-season variety, ripening after most other red currants. This makes it an excellent choice for extending the harvest season when planted alongside earlier varieties. Plants are vigorous, reliable, and highly productive, with mature bushes capable of producing heavy annual crops.

Growing Conditions

Rovada currants grow well in a range of soils, including sandy loam and clay loam, as long as drainage is adequate. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 5.5–7.0) and benefit from consistent moisture during the growing season.

Spacing of about 3 feet between plants is recommended. Mulching helps retain moisture and supports overall plant health, especially in warmer or drier conditions.
