September Sun Arctic Kiwi is a productive female Arctic kiwi variety valued for its sweet, smooth-skinned fruit, exceptional cold hardiness, and attractive variegated foliage. Unlike many female Arctic kiwi vines, September Sun can develop white and pink variegation similar to that more commonly seen on male plants, making it both ornamental and productive.
The fruit is small, smooth-skinned, and easy to eat right off the vine without peeling. The flavor is similar to fuzzy kiwi but often sweeter, and the fruit is typically about the size of a hardy kiwi though narrower and more oblong. September Sun ripens in late summer and offers a unique harvest for gardeners in moderate to very cold winter climates.
This fast-growing vine is well suited to trellises, arbors, pergolas, fences, and other supports. Its combination of edible fruit, ornamental foliage, and extreme cold hardiness makes it an excellent choice for edible landscapes and home gardens in colder regions.
🌸 Pollination
September Sun is a female Arctic kiwi and requires a compatible male Actinidia kolomikta plant for fruit production. A male vine such as Pasha Arctic Kiwi provides the pollen needed for fruit set.
One male plant can typically pollinate 6–8 female vines when planted nearby. Arctic kiwi varieties bloom very early in the season and require another kolomikta male for pollination.
